Requirements and Expectations of a Team Member

Below is a description of some (but not all) of the requirements of a team member. Please read it carefully and answer the following questions.

Team members must possess physical stamina.
The nature of the camp lifestyle dictates that you must be able to maintain a demanding schedule due to the type of ministry work and late nights. A typical day at camp may begin at 7:30am, and end as late as 12:00am. Within that time you will often be required to lead games or activities that are sometimes physically demanding. You may find you will function on less rest than you are used to.

Team members must be cooperative and respond well to peer leadership.
Camp Discovery is a relational ministry, and because the program is facilitated by team, you must possess an ability to work together. When our team cooperates together, they are able to run the program well. You will be constantly working with campers, counselors, priests, and parents. As a team style role, you must respond well to peer leadership. Team is supervised by the Camp Directors. You will need to respond to direction and decisions given and made by the Directors. Within the team, individuals are given specific roles to carry out. By supporting the leadership roles on your team, everyone’s gifts are developed and utilized, thus an efficient and united team is formed.

Team members have little alone or “free” time.
The nature of the work at Camp Discovery demands that you are constantly “on”. Often you will be surrounded by campers, counsellors, and/or other team members. Even during sleep you are still responsible for the wellbeing of all those at camp. Thus, during camp you may find that you have little time by yourself. We will try our best to give you off time every day either through "Directors Cut" or other scheduled off time.

Team members must have a personal faith and be open to growth.
Camp Discovery is Catholic by nature, therefore it is important for the team members to be able to share their faith. That being said, you can’t give what you don’t have. We strongly encourage team members to develop and deepen their personal prayer life. You will also be required to participate daily in scheduled team prayer. Camp Discovery is also a formational time where campers, counsellors, and team grow in their faith. To the degree team members are open to the Lord, they will benefit from God changing them to be more effective to minister to young people.

Team members must be of proper age and maturity.
Being on the camp team is an authoritative leadership role. As a senior counsellor must be 18 years old before the first day of the camp you are applying for in order to be accepted on team. As a junior counsellor you must be 13 years old before the first day of camp. As a team member, you will sometimes have to use disciplinary actions. Thus you must act in a mature and responsible way that would a low you to be respected by your peers, and those you minister to.
